How to prepare for FCPS Part 1 in Pakistan
A good FCPS Part 1 plan is not just a larger question bank. It is a repeatable cycle of learning, retrieval, feedback, and revision.
1. Start with the syllabus map
List the subjects and topics you need to cover, then mark each as new, familiar, or weak. Starting with a map prevents the common mistake of spending all your time on the subjects you already enjoy.

2. Learn the concept before drilling questions
Use a recognised reference or your trusted notes to understand the mechanism first. Then answer a small set of single-best-answer MCQs. Explanations are most useful when you compare the correct option with the distractors, not when you only memorise a letter.
3. Practise by topic, then mix topics
Topic practice helps you find gaps. Mixed practice later helps you switch between subjects like you will during an exam. Keep a short record of the topic, why you missed the question, and what you will recall next time.
4. Schedule revision from your mistakes
Revisit incorrect and uncertain questions after a delay. A simple cycle is next-day review, one-week review, and a later mixed session. Use flashcards or a wrong-answer list to make this manageable.
5. Add timed mock exams before the end
Mocks are for pacing and diagnosis, not just a score. After each one, spend at least as much time reviewing the reasoning as you spent answering. Look for repeated subject-level weaknesses.

6. Protect consistency
Set a daily target you can sustain around work and hospital duties. A short session completed consistently is more useful than an ambitious plan abandoned after three days.
